We were impressed by the skyscrapers and industry development in the movies because there was no such buildings in that era. We think it reflected the situation at that tie.The labor was exploited by the capital. But the way making this flim was innovative such as "dissolve" and strong and bold light. It was quite interesting due to the heavy make up and exaggerate of the facial expressions.
