The Portrait of Werner Herzog

Werner Herzog, a German director, had been to many countries in his youth, including Britain, Greece, Mexico, Sudan and so forth. It was his rich travelling experience that made his movies full of imaginative scenes. He preferred to allegorize historical events and accentuated human nature in his films. Most of the leading characters in his movies were fanatical and enthusiastic, which underlined the confrontation of human and the God’s will. He was one of the most renowned directors in the movement of The New German Cinema, and also did a good job in documentaries. Aguirre: The Wrath of God (1972) was his representative masterpiece.
