Chroniques d’une Cour de Récré

In this movie, the boy is leading us, the film watchers, through his point of view throughout the whole movie. The hoist appears several times and in different positions. To me, it symbolizes as a medium which bridges the boy’s family, the family’s living dependence, and the boy himself, just like he himself said that the hoist is necessary for building up a house. As the hoist in the factory was taken apart, it also means that the family is going to lose their living dependence and even to move house. Sometimes the scenes are expressed through photos, and the sound effects together with background music amuse me a lot. The boy uses the camera to capture what happened around him. Even though he cannot afford the expense and that what he took as “pictures” might not be able to be substantiated, he continues doing so as a way to memorize every single valuable details of his life.

It’s my first time watching European movie. The tempo is totally different from Hollywood movies, which indeed makes me feel sleepy. However, the background music is interesting, and I think the way many scenes are presented in photos is special.

The story is about a family lived in the factory where their father work, all the incomes are depend on his father, one day the factory is going to move to the other place due to the finance problem, it means their father will lose his job. Hence, there was a man who has risen to go on the strike, all the workers participated in. The main character Brahim a day found a camera without photographic plate which made him start to recorded his life. The movie is all about the view from the children, how they think of the strike and all the upcoming problems, maybe the factory is going to shut down but they still keep their innocence. In some ways we can feel they are forced to grow up and understand how the environment is changing. We can see how they tackled the ups and downs; because of the situation they can only live their life as usual. Maybe we can’t change the world but we can make it all different with a positive thought, after all your life is controlled by yourself.

In the film, we saw the whole story from a little boy’s point of view, about what happened in his family and how he deal with the strike of the factory which his whole family depend on. It also showed the issue of the immigrants in France.
It seemed that Brahim didn’t really understand the details of the strike and as a child, he can do nothing but simply record the whole thing by taking pictures by his old camera. Somehow, the whole event must had an impact on him by some degree. Maybe when he face the similar situation someday in the future, he will stand out and fight for his rights just like his father.
One part I remember the most about the film is that when they talked about the best memory they had together, they both agreed it is the photo which they took without the negative. It implies that the memories which was imprinted in one’s heart is much more precious then those only carried by the negatives.
