新傳四 鄭穎暄 Kirsty Ying-Hsuan Cheng

The dossier of Fritz Lang

What i am going to introduce is an German film director: Fritz lang. He was born in 1890s, and he was a sciptwriter before he began his career as a director.

As he soon moved on to directing, he made many silent films with powerful visual design. Like a short horror tales "Der Müde Tod" in 1921 and a sci-fi film "Metropolis" in 1927 are some of his most influential silent films. "Metropolis" is set in the future in 2026, it's a big-budget film, costing over 5 million marks to produce and being the most expensive silent film.

Fritz Lang is famous for his dark films (both visually and in tone) and he was termed the "Master of Darkness" by the British Film Insititute and left remarkable works on the early film movement, "German Expressionism" (1920-1927).

Not only does he have great performance on silent films, his first talkie "M" in 1931, which is a crime thriller, also being considered as a epic. By 1936 he was in Hollywood, where he directed films for the next 20 years.

In my presentation, I will pick up some of his famous films and be mainly talking about his styles of directing them and what are they famous for, along with showing some clips for you. Of course I will let everybody know his biography and some trivia about him.

Moreover, I will point out some important terms in my presentation, like "German Expressionism", and briefly introduce them. Then, I will give a reflection on what I have learned from this presentation at the end.
